Since the year 2000 a number of projects have been realised first by Mirjam van Tilburg and later on by the MIMFoundation. Some projects have been finished, other projects are still in preparation.

The projects are for the local population in the Bembeke-region. All this is in consultation with the local authorities and the Dedza diocese. Below every project will be briefly explained.

Renovation Moonekeraschool in Kantande

The ruinous building of the Moonekeraschool in Kantande has been renovated with the help of the local population and the financial help of the MIMfoundation. Four new classrooms have been built so a well functioning school has been raised with decent school furniture and other school necessities, where the teachers take a pleasure in teaching their pupils. At the same time three new lavatories have been realised at the school.

The new ambulance.

MIM bought an ambulance for the Bembeke Health Centre. It is a Toyota station wagon with a huge loading-platform. It helps to transport the patients of the Bembeke region. In May 2002 we could buy a new ambulance with a larger loading-platform and a roof.

This was possible with the help of SiMaVi.

Now the patients can be transported dry. Moreover the MiMfoundation pays the petrol for the poorest patients, the assurance and the maintenance of the ambulance for the years to come.

In 2004 blankets have been bought for the underfed children who are admitted to the health centre. This was possible thanks to a financial support of MIM.

In 2002/2003 there was a famine. We decided to support the agriculture.

So we supplied money to buy sowing-seed and fertiliser in the area, but we also gave money for an instruction-program for local farmers to teach them efficiency in using sowing-seed and fertiliser, better farming and making a compost stack, so they can make a better start.

Until now 588 farmers attend this programme with a lot of success.

Houses for teachers at the Moonakeraschool

In order to employ enough teachers for this school it was necessary to realise nine good houses for the teachers.

Two houses could be renovated, so 7 houses remained to be build in the neighbourhood of the school.

At the moment 7 houses are ready. And there are 9 good theacher houses. (Dec. 2004)
Community house in Kantande.

In 2005 the building is planned of a community house in Kantande, financed by MIM. In the community house different rooms will be realised, which can be used for a lot of purposes, e.g. as a health centre or as a policlinic where a visiting doctor or nurse can do a consulting hour

The design of the community house is established in consultation with the local authorities, so it can be used to the maximum.

Scholarship

At the moment two motivated youngsters from Bembeke region have a scholarship from MIM for their education. Memory Chalira (high school) and Richard Kaposa (Agriculture and Natural Resources studies). The results of both of them have been excellent until now.

Renovation Primary school Bembeke

Referring to the renovated Moonekeraschool in Kantande (see above) a request has been made to renovate the Primary school in Bembeke. At the moment talks are taking place with the local authorities and the diocese. An estimate and further conditions are talked over.
When the finances are sufficient we plan to realise this in 2006.
