From September 19999 until July 2001, Mirjam van Tilburg from Haaren (Holland) was working as a teacher in Bembeke, she taught the theory of education in Bembeke
She was posted by VSO, an organisation that posts professionals to work in developing countries for local wages.

The place of work was the Teacher Trainings College in Bembeke and her purpose was to educate teachers for primary schools.
A part of it was the supervision of practical training.

When she saw the primary schools in the Bembeke region the very bad small buildings, the lack of furniture, the overcrowded classes and the lack of school necessities shocked her.
The health centre, which is situated next to the college, had a huge transport problem
No good ambulance was available and so often children and elderly people died unnecessaty.
The care of undernourished children was miserable: No beds, No blankets, No wire gauzes for the windows, so the malaria-mosquito had free admission.
By means of various actions in Haaren and its surroundings a lot of money was collected.
At the moment the MIMfoundation has a number of established donors, individuals, but also schools, unions,
foundations and funds.
They take care of the finances.

Projects of the MIMfoundation: renovation and new building of school buildings, renovation and building of houses for teachers, agricultural projects, study finances, building a communal house.
All this in the Bembeke region.
